Matte Eye Shadow Palettes (Thoughts, Swatches & Photos)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, matte eye shadows are my favorite! So naturally I’m drawn to all matte palettes and have picked up a few over time. I also have quite a few individual matte eye shadows in my MAC palette, but I plan on doing a separate post for that in the next few weeks so today I’ll just be sharing my all matte palettes. I’ll be giving my thoughts, photos and swatches of all the palettes/shadows. Enough yapping Katie, let’s get started!

Matte Eye Shadow Palette

Meet Matt(e) Nude

Meet Matte Nude Palette

Meet Matte Nude Swatches

Price: $42
Can be found at theBalm.com or occasionally on HauteLook.com

Quick thoughts:

Pros: AMAZING packaging with a large mirror. Nice range of shades. The shadows are pigmented, have a creamy consistency and blend well.

Cons: The lights shades can be a bit powdery but nothing a little tapping can’t solve!

Naked Basics

Naked Basics Palette

Naked Basics Palette Swatches

Price: $27
Can be found at Ulta, Ulta.com, Sephora, Sephora.com or UrbanDecay.com

Quick thoughts:

Pros: Compact packaging with a decent size mirror. Six perfect shades to create a look or to add additional matte shadows to either of the larger Naked palettes. As usual for Urban Decay these shadows have nice pigmentation, are extremely creamy and blend out with little effort.

Cons: I’m not a fan of the packaging. I say this because it can be veryyyy difficult to open. If your nails are painted, good luck not chipping them trying to open it!

***However, I was able to solve this problem with the help of my stepdad. We used the blade of a box cutter to shave down the little nub at the opening a bit and it now opens with ease! I’d highly recommend doing this if you had the same problem with your palette but be careful not to shave the nub down too, too much because then your palette won’t stay closed at all anymore.***

Eye On Neutral

Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Palette

Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Palette Swatches

Price: $19.99
Can be purchased at Target, Target.com or SoniaKashuk.com

Quick Thoughts:

Pros: Nice, wide range of shades. The shadows are very pigmented, creamy and blendable. The side of the palette slides out and has a flip book with three different looks you can create using these shadows.

Cons: Although I like the clear top there is no mirror included on the packaging which can be a problem for some. The lightest shade is a bit chalky but again, nothing a little tapping can’t solve.

Round Up

Meet Matt(e) Nude wins for packaging, Naked Basics wins for size but overall if I were to recommend one of these palettes it would be Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral. I may be a little biased because I love, love, love this palette. It’s been a favorite, go-to palette of mine since I purchased it last summer. Taking price, quality and the amount of shadows into consideration I think it’s the best option. You can’t beat having twelve highly pigmented, blendable shadows at a $19.99 pricetag!

Sorry this post is a few days late, it was a bit overcast on Friday so I wasn’t able to get good shots of the palettes until Sunday afternoon.

Have you tried any of these palettes? What were your thoughts? Or do you have other matte eye shadow palettes you think I should try out? Leave a comment!

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude Palette (Photos and Swatches)

Outside Packaging

Inside Packaging

Meet Matte Nude Packaging - Open

I absolutely loveeee The Balm’s packaging. I think they have one of the best, if not the best packaging out of all the beauty brands out there. I especially love the cover of the Meet Matt(e) Nude palette. Last year The Balm released their original Meet Matt(e) palette which featured Matt fully clothed on the cover and since this is the neutral or “nude” version they decided to have Matt in his “birthday suit” on the cover. I just think it’s a brilliant idea, kudos to whoever at The Balm that thought of it!

Eye Shadow Close-Up

Meet Matte Nude Palette Close up

Another thing I love about the Meet Matt(e) palettes is the naming of the individual shadows. Each of the shadows in both palettes are coincidently named after a different Matt, which I find completely adorable!

Swatches

Meet Matte Nude Swatches

I can’t say too much about the quality of these shadows because so far all I’ve done is these small swatches. I plan on doing a MOTD post using this palette later in the week so I can update you with my true first impression then. However, I did notice the lighter shades (Matt Malloy and Matt Lombardi) were a bit chalky which is disappointing.

Overall, my impressions of the Meet Matt(e) Nude palette are pretty positive up to this point. I look forward to using the shadows in a complete look on Wednesday so be on the look out for that post!

Has anyone tried this palette yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Leave them in a comment below.

Meet Matt(e) Nude retails for $42 and can be found at TheBalm.com or occasionally on HauteLook for around 50% off (I purchased mine from Hautelook at the beginning of February).

January 2013 Favorites

I know, I know, I’m really late on my January favorites but I figured better late than never! Let’s get started!

Favorite Lip Combo

Favorite Lip Combo

Lately I have been pairing Revlon’s LipButter in Sugar Plum with Stila’s Lip Glaze in Tropical Punch. It creates a gorgeous plum colored lip which I think is perfect for winter.

Lorac Pro Palette

Lorac Pro Palette

Although I’m more of a matte eye shadow kind of girl, I’ve been using some shimmers and satins this month as well. I’ve been trying to use all the makeup I have so it’s not just sitting around collecting dust so I brought out my Lorac Pro palette. Of course I love the entire top row of the palette since it’s all matte but my favorites from the bottom, shimmery row are Lt. Bronze, Pewter and Garnet. If you don’t already have this palette I’d highly recommend you check it out but just a small warning; it does have a bit of fall out, so you’ll need to tap the excess off your brush before using.

MAC Paint Pot in Painterly

MAC Painterly Paint Pot

I literally do not have the words to describe my love for this product but I will try! MAC’s Paint Pot in Painterly is amazingggg! I don’t know what took me so long to purchase this product but boy am I glad I finally did! This is pretty much the only eye shadow primer/base I’ve used since I bought it in early January and I swear I will never be without it again. If you’re looking for a base/primer I would definitely recommend trying this one over any others because it truly made my eye shadow last all day without any fading. MAC also has a ton of other colors and finishes available so don’t fret if Painterly doesn’t suit you well!

Tarte Clean Slate Poreless Primer

Tarte Primer

I’ve never really been into full face primers before but my lovely friend Tiffany from Villabeautiful.com sent me this in a mini sample set so I decided to give it a try and I’ve been loving it! I feel like it’s really been helping my face makeup stay on all day and most importantly it doesn’t feel overly grease/siliconey when I apply it.

St. Ives Apricot Scrub

St Ives Apricot Scrub

I have been hearing about this product on YouTube for about a year now so I finally decided to pick it up myself and see what all the hype was about. I’m also not sure what it took me so long to buy this product because it’s really inexpensive at only $3 and it leaves my skin feels so so soooo soft and smooth. Buy it, that’s all.

Merry Cookie Candle

Merry Cookie Candle

Yes I realize Christmas is over but that’s not stopping me from burning this yummy candle! I would say it smells more like the average birthday cake or vanilla cupcake candle then a cookie but I don’t mind because those are my favorites!

Godiva Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt

41jD-9GyqmL__SL500_AA300_

Let me prefix this favorite by saying I absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, HATE dark chocolate. However, last month my mom was eating this Godiva dark chocolate with sea salt so I tried a little bit and fell in love! I’m a sweet and salty person so this combination is right up my alley! I buy mine at Target for around $3.50. Target also has a Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt bar but trust me, it is NOT the same. It’s a little bit cheaper but it has 20% more cacao so it’s wayyyy more bitter than the Godiva chocolate. Just splurge and go for the Godiva. I promise you, you will not regret it!

Well that wraps up my January favorites! I really hope you’ll try some of these products out because as you can tell I’m slightly obsessed. If you have any favorites you’d like to share leave a comment. I’d love to hear about your must haves from January!
