Target Summer Beauty Bag Overview

Earlier this year I got a call from my mom telling me to go on Facebook (she doesn’t have one and refuses to get one) and sign up for Target’s Spring beauty bag giveaway. At the time I didn’t know exactly what it was but hey, it was free so I was doing it! I signed up for the Spring beauty bag and of course, totally forgot about it until a lovely little package arrived on my doorstep a few weeks later. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but once it arrived I liked what I saw. I got a little makeup bag with a bunch of trial/sample size beauty products and a coupon booklet. Since that was my first time hearing about and receiving the beauty bag I wasn’t sure if it was an every season giveaway or not. However, a few months later I got word that Target was doing it again for summer. I quickly ran over to my computer, logged onto Facebook, went to the Target Style page and signed up to receive the Summer beauty bag (pictured below is a screenshot of how the webpage looks for the giveaway).

Once again, I had completely forgotten about it until a little box arrived on my doorstep this Wednesday. In case you’re not familiar with Target’s beauty bag giveaway here’s an overview of the bag and its contents:

Not only was I pleased with the products inside, but I actually like this season’s bag itself more than the spring bag.

#1 – Aveeno Living Color (color preserving) shampoo and conditioner

#2 – Garnier Fructis Color Shield shampoo and conditioner
(And look at the size of those samples! They’re huge! I can get AT LEAST 2 washes with each)

#3 – Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 70

#4 – TRESemme Split Remedy Shampoo

#5 – Revlon ColorBurst LipButter in Peach Parfait
(I was really excited about this sample because I loveee these lip butters and I didn’t have this color yet!)

In addition to the bag and all the trial/sample products you also get a coupon book. Inside are coupons that can be used on full size versions of all the products you received, as well as a bunch of other products.

Overall, I’m very pleased with this season’s bag and it was free so I can’t complain anyway!

I’ll make sure I share with you if Target does another beauty bag giveaway for Fall. If you follow me on Instagram (@KatieFigYaDig) I had posted about it this time around but next time I’ll share it on my actual blog as well for my non-Instagram users.

Be sure to check out my next post to see how I already used some of these coupons in a Target haul.

Arboretum Pictures

I got back the pictures from my Arboretum trip about a week ago but I just now got a chance to upload and go through them. As promised I want to share them with you. I picked a few of my favorites or else this post would be superrrr long because we took A LOT of pictures that day (had to make sure we got a good one).

(I’m kind of a hunchback… I can’t help it)

I love my mama bear!

Considering I think I’m the most un-photogenic person alive I’m very pleased with the end results. Thanks again to Julie for driving out and taking pictures for me.

Ready for a Change

Number one on my summer to-do list is to get back in shape and number six is to run a 5K. Like any logical person, I decided that I’m going to kill two birds with one stone and achieve number one while training for number six. Or… achieve number six while working at number one. Guess it depends on how you look at it.

Today, June 1st 2012, marks the start of my new “lifestyle change.” I hear if you call it a diet you’re just setting yourself up for failure and thus far in my life I can tell you that is extremely true.

I weighed myself this morning (before I ate breakfast but after I used the bathroom) and the verdict was… 138.2 pounds. I was surprised at this number because I’ve remained at or near this weight for about the past 10 months. Which I guess is good because I didn’t gain any more weight but I also didn’t lose any weight either. I was beginning to think my scale was broken so I picked up a gallon of water then stood on the scale again and nope, not broken!

Now that I have my starting weight it’s time to decide on a reasonable goal. I used to say I wanted to be back at my high school weight (118 pounds) but I’ve decided that anywhere between 120-125 pounds is a more realistic goal to start with. I’m giving myself a timeline of 3 months to try and get there.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “Oh, 13 pounds in 3 months? That’s easy…” WRONG! I’m the worst person when it comes to food. I’m not an overly picky eater but one thing I do not eat is vegetables. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a combination of the smell, color, texture and taste that I just can’t get over. The only vegetables that I do like are baked potatoes, raw carrots and romaine lettuce (sad, I know). The polar opposite of my hatred of vegetable is my love of sweets and by love I mean obsession. I love, love, loveeee anything with a lot of sugar in it and I have a horrible time with self control. Basically at this point I have zero self control when it comes to sweets. All this being said I am going to keep track of my daily calorie intake using My Fitness Pal.

You may remember I mentioned My Fitness Pal as one of my Top 10 Favorite iPhone Apps. Using the app and website I am going log in all the food and/or drinks I take in everyday. I started off today by entering in my current weight and changing my goals. My Fitness Pal then gave me then gave me a calorie goal of 1,200 per day. If I stay at 1,200 calories per day, even without exercise, I should lose a pound a week. However, I plan on starting an exercise routine as well.

I plan on exercising at least 5-6 days a week for 45-60 minutes. My exercise plan will include going to the gym and/or working out outside. I recently downloaded two new apps which I plan on using during this process that I wanted to share with you.

The first app is 5K Runner: Couch to 5K Workout ($2.99 or there’s a free sample version as well). This app helps guide you through an eight week 5K training program. According to the 5K Runner you should be able to complete a 5K run after the 8 week program by only training 3 times a week with the app. I haven’t started using it yet (I will tonight) but once I’ve used it for a while I’ll type up a full review and share with you how well it’s working for me.

The second app I wanted to share is MapMyRide (free). Using MapMyRide’s GPS system you can track your bike rides (pace, total time, distance, calories burned, etc…). It does soooo much more than that but the only reason I downloaded this app is for when I go on bike rides outside. I’ve used this app a few times so far and I really like it. I like that once I’m finished it’ll give me stats about the ride I just completed and a map showing the route I took.

Now that my goal and plan to reach it are on paper (… or the web for that matter) for the world to see I guess I’ll really have to stick with it this time.  This is going to be a struggle, but I really hope I can stay motivated and keep my end goal in mind. I’m just going to take it one week at a time and see how it goes from there. Wish me luck!

Makeup Board Q & A

Before the magnetic boards go on sale I wanted to put together a list of some questions you might have with answers. That way you can get all your questions answered in one place and I don’t have to answer the same questions over and over and over again (hehehe).

How/when will you start selling?

I’m going to put up a blog post with pictures of all the boards I currently have done on Sunday June 3nd at 11am (Chicago time). Once the pictures are posted the sale will begin on a first come first serve basis. First person to claim a board is the one who will get it.

Will you ship the boards?

Unfortunately, I am not currently able to ship the boards. This first batch is my test run so I want to start off with getting one to everyone who wants one locally initially and see if that runs smoothly. Once all my local customers have been served I will possibly be opening an page to sell throughout the US. The boards are fairly large (see sizes below) so it’s going to cost an arm and a leg to ship. I’m also worried about them making it to the customer in one piece. With all that being said, if you still have any questions about having a board shipped to you, you can email me at (serious inquires only please).

How can I pick up my board?

We will discuss board pick up once you claimed a board.

How long do I have to pick up my board?

Once a board has been claimed I will hold it for no more than 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks is up I will place all boards which have not been picked up back on sale.

What sizes do you have?

There will be two different sizes available:

– Small board (20 inches long by 9 inches wide)

– Large board (28 inches long by 12 inches wide)

How much do they cost?

Small boards are $35* and large boards $55*

*price includes: all board materials, magnets and labor

What do I get with my board?

– Small board: board, 25 small rare earth magnets, 5 large rare earth magnets and an instruction/information/idea sheet.

– Large board: board, 50 small rare earth magnets, 10 large rare earth magnets and an instruction/information/idea sheet.

What are rare earth magnets?

Rare earth magnets are a very strong type of magnet. The magnets you will receive with purchase have an approximate pull force of 1.6 pounds (small) and 2.4 pounds (large).

What kind of paper did you use for the background?

At the bottom of this post I included a picture with the 6 different background papers I used for this set of boards.

Do you take custom orders?

I’m not taking custom orders at the moment but it may be something that will happen in the future if this run goes smoothly.

I hope this Q & A was helpful. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to either leave a comment on this post or email me at

– Katie

Here are the papers I chose to use for the background. I stuck with mostly neutral choices, that way the boards can grow with you even as your style changes.

Saturday Arboretum Fun!

I’m still fairly new at this blogging thing but I’m slowly getting the hang of it as I go. One thing I know, it’s important to have a picture of yourself up. As a blog reader myself I like when bloggers have pictures of themselves on their site. It helps me identify with the author on a more personal level and I feel like I truly know them. That being said, I want everyone who reads my blog to experience that same level of closeness with me so yesterday my mom, her best friend and I took a trip to a local arboretum so I could take a picture. I don’t have the finished products yet but since everything was so pretty I figured I could at least share some pictures with you that I took with my iPhone.

While we were there they were in the process of constructing a bunch of small play houses for kids. Let’s just say this is going to be a kid’s dream land. They have a tiny castle, boat, farm, a few houses and a bunch more.

My mom and I.

Julie and I.

Photo bomb courtesy of Julie…

I love this woman!

I’m not a big flower girl but this neon flower was gorgeous!!!

Much needed water after a long day of walking in the heat.

After putting about 87 miles on my Nikes I finally got the chance to sit and look through all the pictures from the day.

I’d like to say a BIG thank you to Julie for driving over an hour out to the arboretum so that she could take pictures of me for my blog. She was able to get some good ones. I can’t wait to get them back! I should have them by sometime this week and of course I’ll be sharing them with you.

It’s going to be super hot outside today (anything over 85 is super hot for me and today the high is 97… yikes) so if you need me I’ll either be hibernating inside or in my pool.
