Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain Review

Revlon recently released their new Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (that’s a mouth full!) and since then they have been receiving rave reviews. I, being the skeptic that I am, decided to pick up two of the twelve available shades to test out for myself. I’m going to keep this as short, sweet, and to the point as possible but I have so much to say about this product… I’m warning you now!

Let me start off by saying I love, love, loveee this product and just about everything about it. If you just want quick advice on whether or not to buy it then YES. Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes! I’d say at least give it a try and if you end up not liking it most stores will take back products you are not satisfied with. If you want a full review of the product and what my thoughts are on the colors I purchased then keep on reading!

Packaging

I really like the packaging of this product. The tubes are fairly large which I like for two main reasons: one, because it’s easy to hold when applying to the lips and two, it can easily be spotted when misplaced. Another great thing about the packaging that I noticed after I started wearing the different shades is that unlike most lip products the colors of the tubes are almost IDENTICAL to the color that appears on the lips (at least mine anyway). For that reason alone I’d feel more confident in purchasing additional colors from the collection.

I also wanted to quickly point out something that people may be confused about (I definitely was!) when they get the product home. How on earth do you get more balm stain out? I was confused because I was thinking okay, I’m going to need a gigantic sharpener but wait it’s a plastic tube. I had an air head moment like… ughhhh how does this work? I can’t sharpener the plastic? However, I quickly figured out that the silver band at the bottom of the tube isn’t just an accent. You actually twist the band and more products pops up. Pictured below on the left is the silver band. On the right is a balm stain fully twisted up so you can see exactly how much (or how little I should say) product you’re getting for your money (retail price $7.29 at target or $8.99 at Ulta). I would have been kind of upset at the lack of product you receive if I hadn’t gotten an incredible deal on these.

Product

Other than its minimal amount, I really can’t seem to find anything wrong with this product. HONESTLY! Within the first few days of trying these I automatically knew they were going to be a new favorite of mine and went out to get two more shades (since then I’ve bought another shade as well). I have heard a lot of people mention that they smell minty and I definitely agree. I personally think it smells almost identical to Burt’s Bees. The last thing I want to mention about the product itself is that it doesn’t have a taste at all.

Application

Application is very smooth and extremely easy. It goes on just as smooth with one coat as it does it with five coats. I like that it doesn’t get cakey at all when applying multiple coats. It’s a very buildable product which I think is one of its best features. You can add as little color or as much color as you want.

Once applied it basically stays on your lips all day. For the first three hours or so it feels like a lip balm. After the first few hours you’ll notice the moisture start to fade but your lips will remain stained for several more hours.

Color Breakdown

Rendezvous is a bright orange that is perfect for summer! This was my first experience with an orange lip color and I’m glad I was brave enough to try it because I love it. I’m definitely going to be wearing this A TON this summer and probably in the fall also. A feature that I really like about this shade is once the orange stain starts fading and your natural pink shows through it looks like you’ve got coral stain on your lips, which is also perfect for summer! I’d say it’s a win-win with this one!

Sweetheart is another bright color that is perfect for summer! The bright pink packaging is actually what caught my eye and made me want to purchase this shade. Unlike some other extremely bright lip products I would say that Sweetheart has a very wearable brightness. As mentioned these balm stains are very buildable so you can just add one coat if you’re not into super bright pink lips or you can add multiple coats to intensify. Although this color is vibrant I would probably wear this year round but adding a few less coats in the non-summer months.

Ahhhh, what to say about Cherish… at first I was reluctant to purchase this shade but after seeing multiple people rave about it I caved in. Once I got home and tried it on I completely understood why everyone was so excited out it. Cherish is an absolutely gorgeoussss light Barbie pink. But don’t let that scare you, I promise it’s not too light and won’t wash you out. It just adds a nice coat of pink to your lips. I would say this shade would be nice to use throughout the entire year and can be used with a wide variety of looks. I really like all of the shades I have purchased so far but if I had to pick a favorite Cherish would be it. If someone only wanted to purchase one shade from the entire collection I would recommend this one without a doubt.

Out of the four shades I purchased Honey would have to be my least favorite. It’s not that it’s not a pretty color (it is a nice neutral pink) but because it’s only a shade or two darker than my natural lip color. I don’t regret buying it at all but it just doesn’t give me as great of a color pay off as the other three shades do. I’ve been using this as a lip balm whenever my lips need some moisture or when I just want a little color. I’ll probably use this shade when I’m doing more of a dramatic eye and want to keep my lip color neutral. Honey wouldn’t be my first choice and I probably won’t re-purchase but I’ll make it work since I already have it.

Well after composing almost an entire novel about this product,
I’m ready to give my rating…

Although I do wish you got more product for your money, overall I really loved the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains and am going to give them… you guessed it…. 4 stars!

I really hope you found this review helpful. Based on the twelve shades available I truly believe there is something for everyone. I also hope that you’ll go and try out at least one of the shades.

Have you tried this product out yet? If so, leave a comment with your personal experience and what you thought of it.

P.S. You may notice something a little different around here. I decided it was time to change my blog theme. The theme I had previously really just wasn’t me at all and I was never thrilled with it. It looked kind of bland and boring so I decided to change it up a bit. This new theme is much brighter and definitely more me so I hope you like it!

NYX Matte Lipstick Review

Every since I got an Instagram account and followed a bunch of makeup artists/lovers/collectors I have become obsessed with lipstick. The funny thing is I never used to understand why people around my age would wear lipstick. I kind of thought it was for old ladies *gasp* but NOT ANYMORE! Now I love the stuff!

Since starting my little lipstick collection I’ve tried a few different styles and brands. One of my favorites is the relatively new Revlon ColorBurst LipButters. They are extremely moisturizing and feel just like chapstick when applied. They have a pretty good color payoff and staying power but don’t last as long as say a MAC lipstick would. In my hunt for more lipsticks I kept hearing good things from a number of sources about NYX matte lipsticks so I decided to give them a try.

I was a bit leery at first to try these lipsticks because I already own a few of the NYX round lipsticks and found that those make my lips a little flakey looking unless I add a gloss on top. But I, being the lover of trying new beauty products that I am, decided to pick up two NYX matte lipsticks to try anyway. I’ve have had them for a while now and finally got around to trying them out a few days ago. My verdict issss… they are amazingggg!

NYX matte lipstick comes in a simple but sweet black tube packaging. There are 22 different shades available for purchase either in store (I bought mine from Ulta) or from a variety of other online retailers. The two colors I chose to test out were Summer Breeze and Angel. Summer Breeze is a true pink where as Angel is more of a pinky-red (swatches are included at the end of this post).

Okay, review time…

I love, love, loveeeed these lipsticks! They are extremely pigmented and very true to color. Only one swipe of lipstick to the top and bottom lip is needed to gain full coverage (…in my case anyway). Unlike the NYX round lipstick these matte lipsticks are extremely moisturizing and did not look flakey when applied. Since they are matte they almost look like more of a lip stain as opposed to a lipstick. Another similarity they share with lip stains is their staying power. I kept my first shade (Summer Breeze) on for several hours before switching to see what Angel looked like on. Throughout those hours the lipstick surprisingly didn’t lose any color. I almost didn’t even want to switch shades because I wanted to see how long Summer Breeze would last. However, I’m thankful I made the switch because I found I liked the lipstick even more the second time around.

Taking all these factors into consideration I, without a single doubt, am going to give the NYX matte lipsticks… 4 stars!

Aside from everything else I previously mentioned, one of the best things about these lipsticks is their affordability. The NYX website sells them for $6 each and the Ulta website as well as the retail store has them for $5.99 each. If you’re looking for an even better deal you can do like I did and grab them when Ulta is having a buy one, get one half off or a buy two get one free sale. I love a good deal… especially on beauty products!

Overall, this lipstick is definitely a new favorite of mine. I cannot wait until Ulta has another NYX sale so I can go back and get a bunch more shades to try out. I would definitely recommend these NYX matte lipsticks to anyone. Especially those who are new to the lipstick game or just aren’t a fan of how regular lipstick wears.

What are some of your favorite lipsticks? Leave me a comment so I can check it out.

Sigma Brush Review

I have been on the hunt for what seems like FOREVER for some quality makeup brushes. Okay, maybe not forever but at least 2 years now. I’m a bargain hunter so I didn’t want to go the MAC route because I’d end up spending approximately one billion dollars total, give or take a little, by the time my set was complete. So instead I put my nerd glasses on and did some good old fashion research! I spent a few days Googling and reading reviews before I was finally set on the brushes for me. After reading and also hearing wonderful things (such great quality, amazingly soft, must have brushes, comparable to MAC, if not better, etc…) from countless reviews, Instagram friends and also a personal friend, who happens to be a certified makeup artist, I decided to purchase brushes from Sigma Beauty.

With help from my MUA friend Jackie, aka the Makeup Nista, I compiled a list of all the essential brushes I needed to have in my kit. Luckily, Sigma Beauty offers an essentials kit that contains 12 different must-have brushes. They have a few different types of brush sets which you can check out here but I just went with the classic black essentials brush kit. With suggestions from Jackie I also added a few other additional brushes (E80, E25 x2, E40 and E45). I did some Googling beforehand and found a coupon code for 10% off my total purchase which saved me $14.30. All-in-all I bought 17 eye and face brushes for $136.75 (shipping included). Now, I’m sure some of you are thinking, “$136.75 for some makeup brushes?!” and yes, it’s a lot but that’s nothing compared to MAC prices! Plus, I consider these a “long term investment” since I’ll have them for a few years AT LEAST.

Review time…

The Sigma Beauty website was easy to navigate and my package arrived in less than a week from my purchase date which started off my experience well. That first impression continued once I opened the box. Right away I was drawn in by the product packaging. It has a sweet, simple black and white theme with some splashes of teal, pink and dandelion yellow.

My 12 piece essentials brush kit came in the larger box which included a pamphlet that gives you the names of all 12 brushes and their purposes.

My 5 additional brushes came in the smaller box.

I also received a free gift with purchase which was a small E05 eyeliner brush.

And at the bottom of my box was an instruction sheet on how to clean the brushes.

Once I was done ooohing and ahhhing over the presentation of the products I finally got down to trying them out with Jackie at my side. Since I had never owned such a wide variety of makeup brushes before I asked Jackie to teach me a few tips and tricks of the trade (which I’ll share with you in the next post). As I was learning these tips and tricks we were using different face and eye brushes. While using them I noticed that each brush was equally as soft as the one I had used prior. I’d like to refer to this feeling as soft as a baby’s butt. To expand further, these brushes are EXTREMELY soft and great quality for the price. The bristles on a few of the eye brushes have been shedding a bit but that’s fairly standard with any type of brush. If I continue to have this problem I’m going to write Sigma an email and see if they can send me replacement brushes. This hasn’t happened to anyone else I’ve talked to so my brushes might just be defective. I’m not too worried about. Overall, I give Sigma Beauty makeup brushes… 3 stars! (Would have been 4 if not for the slight shedding)

I really like my new brushes and I am 99.9% satisfied with my purchase. I’d like to thank everyone who recommended these to me because you did not steer me wrong! Now I’m going to turn the tables and recommend these to everyone and anyone who is looking to purchase quality makeup brushes but don’t want to spend a fortune doing so.

Be sure to check out my next post “A Day with the Makeup Nista” for a more in-depth post about these brushes.

Ben and Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt Review

A few weeks ago Ben & Jerry’s released their much anticipated Greek frozen yogurt. I wanted to try a flavor or two since there is so much hoopla going on about it. But I haven’t had a chance until a few days ago when I finally made it to a grocery store. I picked up two of the mini containers because they are perfect for taste testing and also budget friendly (budget friendly for taste testing only. If not, they’re a total rip off!). The two mini containers cost less than $1.50 each; about the same amount it would have cost me to try a single pint size container. Ben & Jerry’s Greek frozen yogurt comes in 4 flavors: Strawberry Shortcake, Raspberry Fudge Chunk, Banana Peanut Butter and Blueberry Vanilla Graham.

More info here

The flavors I picked out were Banana Peanut Butter, because I loveee peanut butter, and Raspberry Fudge Chunk since it was the only flavor with chocolate in it.

I love yogurt, I love frozen yogurt, I hate Greek yogurt, but apparently I… like Greek frozen yogurt! (Ben & Jerry’s anyway…) Their version of this up and coming treat was surprisingly not bitter at all for being made with Greek yogurt and for that reason alone I’m giving Ben & Jerry’s Greek frozen yogurt 4 stars.

I’ve only had a chance to try the Banana Peanut Butter flavor so far and it was delicious! This flavor is definitely up to par with what you would expect from Ben & Jerry’s. Immediately upon opening the carton you can see the thick peanut butter swirls mixed in with the banana Greek frozen yogurt. Both flavors are extremely strong (as most of Ben and Jerry’s flavors are), but if you love bananas and peanut butter this is the flavor for you! I would have liked there to be a bit more peanut butter mixed in but overall it was still good as packaged. Once I got my initial few tastes done I added in a bit of dark chocolate because bananas, peanut butter and chocolate are my winning combo! However, I was disappointed because the banana and peanut butter overpowered the chocolate and I couldn’t taste it.

Have any of you given this flavor or any of the other three flavors a try? Leave a comment below and let me know what you thought of it.

The Lucky One Review

This past Saturday after a longggg day of visiting my future alma mater, North Central College, for their transfer student day (I’m officially a Cardinal, YAY!) as well as running errands, my parents and I decided to head out for a movie night. Naturally this included having buttery movie theater popcorn with nacho cheese and candy for dinner… I didn’t hate it.

Yummmm!

Our movie choice for the night was… *drum roll*

The Lucky One!
(trailer can be found here)

The Lucky One is based on the novel The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. For those of you who haven’t heard of the movie here is a summary of the storyline from imdb.com:

“U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Discovering her name is Beth and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.”

Okay, now time for my review:

I really enjoyed this movie. It has the typical romantic storyline: boy and girl meet, boy and girl turn each other away, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl get into a fight, boy and girl make up, end up together and live happily ever after. Overall, The Lucky One had a clear theme that was consistent throughout the movie. However, I did find that certain events in the movie felt a bit rushed; which I completely understand because if it wasn’t rushed the movie would have been 4 hours long. That being said, I had not read the book prior to seeing the movie and everyone knows the Cardinal rule: don’t see a movie if you have read the book first, it will ruin it for you! My mom on the other hand had read the book and wasn’t exactly pleased at how it played out on screen. After the movie she shared with me a bunch of the differences between the movie and the book which is part of the reason why I’ll give this movie 3 stars.

I’m giving The Lucky One 3 stars because not only is it very different than the book (based on what my mom shared with me) but it also felt rushed. Generally speaking though it was still an enjoyable movie and I would recommend it to anyone who is a sucker for a good love story.

Have any of you seen it? If so, what was your take on the movie?
