Matte Eye Shadow Palettes (Thoughts, Swatches & Photos)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, matte eye shadows are my favorite! So naturally I’m drawn to all matte palettes and have picked up a few over time. I also have quite a few individual matte eye shadows in my MAC palette, but I plan on doing a separate post for that in the next few weeks so today I’ll just be sharing my all matte palettes. I’ll be giving my thoughts, photos and swatches of all the palettes/shadows. Enough yapping Katie, let’s get started!

Matte Eye Shadow Palette

Meet Matt(e) Nude

Meet Matte Nude Palette

Meet Matte Nude Swatches

Price: $42
Can be found at theBalm.com or occasionally on HauteLook.com

Quick thoughts:

Pros: AMAZING packaging with a large mirror. Nice range of shades. The shadows are pigmented, have a creamy consistency and blend well.

Cons: The lights shades can be a bit powdery but nothing a little tapping can’t solve!

Naked Basics

Naked Basics Palette

Naked Basics Palette Swatches

Price: $27
Can be found at Ulta, Ulta.com, Sephora, Sephora.com or UrbanDecay.com

Quick thoughts:

Pros: Compact packaging with a decent size mirror. Six perfect shades to create a look or to add additional matte shadows to either of the larger Naked palettes. As usual for Urban Decay these shadows have nice pigmentation, are extremely creamy and blend out with little effort.

Cons: I’m not a fan of the packaging. I say this because it can be veryyyy difficult to open. If your nails are painted, good luck not chipping them trying to open it!

***However, I was able to solve this problem with the help of my stepdad. We used the blade of a box cutter to shave down the little nub at the opening a bit and it now opens with ease! I’d highly recommend doing this if you had the same problem with your palette but be careful not to shave the nub down too, too much because then your palette won’t stay closed at all anymore.***

Eye On Neutral

Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Palette

Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Palette Swatches

Price: $19.99
Can be purchased at Target, Target.com or SoniaKashuk.com

Quick Thoughts:

Pros: Nice, wide range of shades. The shadows are very pigmented, creamy and blendable. The side of the palette slides out and has a flip book with three different looks you can create using these shadows.

Cons: Although I like the clear top there is no mirror included on the packaging which can be a problem for some. The lightest shade is a bit chalky but again, nothing a little tapping can’t solve.

Round Up

Meet Matt(e) Nude wins for packaging, Naked Basics wins for size but overall if I were to recommend one of these palettes it would be Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral. I may be a little biased because I love, love, love this palette. It’s been a favorite, go-to palette of mine since I purchased it last summer. Taking price, quality and the amount of shadows into consideration I think it’s the best option. You can’t beat having twelve highly pigmented, blendable shadows at a $19.99 pricetag!

Sorry this post is a few days late, it was a bit overcast on Friday so I wasn’t able to get good shots of the palettes until Sunday afternoon.

Have you tried any of these palettes? What were your thoughts? Or do you have other matte eye shadow palettes you think I should try out? Leave a comment!
